A Visit to Dravyavati Experience Centre

Educational visits gives lifetime learningsalong with exposure and practical understandings. An educational visit to Dravyavati experience centre (Jaipur) was organized by Department of Management (HRM & IB), IIS (deemed to be University) Jaipur. The major objective of the visit was to attain the better understanding of subject “Project Management’’ and to know the real scenario and technicalities of the project. Dravyavati River was once a thriving river turned into a drain (Amanishah Nallah), to rejuvenate this river a project was taken by TATA group in collaboration with Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). This rejuvenation project is based on the concept of watershed rehabilitation, flood prevention, pollution treatment and recovering the lost ecology of the river. Dravyavati River project “A 47.5 km of beauty, cleanliness and joy!” The visit held was exclusively for MBA semester 4th students. Total 25students and two faculty coordinators Dr. Mahima Rai and Dr. Varsha Choudhary left the campus at 10:10 a.m. and reached the Dravyavati river front by 10:30 a.m. Initially students explored the entire project sight, i.e. Riverfront and landscape park walkway after that students explored the Experience centre it is beautifully constructed and has pictorial representation of Dravyavati River since the year 1770 till 2018 .A beautiful tree that has been made from scrap material, that were gathered while cleaning the nallah at the entrance of the experience centre. Later on, we students were guided towards AV hall inside experience centre which have subtle interior. There students had an interactive session with Mr. Prasant from TATA groups. Initially they showed a short film on Dravyavati river project which stated that the Project is dedicated to residents of Jaipur and aims to improve health and sanitation by proper waste collection and then they gave a brief introduction of project in which they talked about project proponents i.e. water channels, check dams , walk ways, plantation, 3 Parks, garbage collection, STP, street lightings, Wi-Fi facilities, and security surveillance and the project experience centre building (PEC building). They enlightened students with their in-depth knowledge of the subject and all the technicalities of the projectwith the help of a presentation through which we got to know the materials, technology(SBR) and expertise (engineers and IITians) that has been involved into the project and that the project is a lumpsum EPC (engineering, procurement construction) Project. They gave us some factual knowledge like 1,7500 trees has been planted, and landscape development of 1,00,000 sqm and employment generation (30,000+) and reclamation of value of land. They also shed light on challenges faced by them during project and how they cope up with such challenges. Theytalked about their planning for future maintenance of the river as well. Furthermore, they talked about project management concepts linking it to the practicalities of project which includes, Project life cycle phases, social cost benefit and feasibility and all the core aspects of the project like the financial aspects, social aspects, economic aspects, environmental aspects etc. were covered. The session was very wholesome and informative. The visit came to an end with a group photograph and they also provided a Project Brochure to all students. The entire visit was effectual and full of enlightenment and so with good memories and truckloads of experience students reached back to the campus by 12:30 p.m.
