Description: Department of Management-HRM organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Social Entrepreneurship’. The resource person for the session was Ms. Purva Bhatt, Research Scholar. She illustrated that social entrepreneurship is an innovative, social value creating activity that occurs within or across the non-profit, business or government sector. In simple terms, she highlighted how traditional business techniques can be applied to solve the social issues and problems with real life examples. To serve the community in the most practical manner, one need to first identify the problem, consult the problem with the stakeholders and then come up with the solutions and innovative ideas.

Ms Purva Bhatt conducted two activities. In the first activity, beneficiaries were supposed to draw the “India of their dreams”. And in the second activity, they were asked to write a problem in a circle and identify the stakeholders related to it.

Learning outcomes: Students gained insights on various aspects of social entrepreneurship. Furthermore, they gained understanding that people have n number of solutions to a given problem but they don’t try to study the problem itself from the root level. Therefore, efforts should be made to apply the creative intuitions in solving social problems for the betterment of the society as a whole.
